Adding an ADU for aging parents in Jacksonville
We’re trying to find a reliable company to help us build an ADU behind our main house for my elderly parents. They don’t need a lot of space, just a small 1-bed unit with good accessibility features (no stairs, wide doorways, grab bars, etc.). We’ve got space on our lot, but I have no idea how permitting works in Duval County. Do contractors typically handle that part too?

I went through the exact same process for my dad last summer. After a lot of digging, I went with because they had experience building ADA-friendly layouts and knew Jacksonville permitting inside and out. They helped us design a unit that was flat-entry, with wider halls and even included a walk-in shower with rails. They managed all the approvals, including setbacks and utility permissions. They even explained the inspection schedule and helped prep for each one. Have you already had a survey done on your lot, or are you still early in the planning phase?

We haven’t done a survey yet, but it's good to know they help with that stuff too. I’ll definitely look into them, thanks a lot!
