Meds addiction
Does anyone know why some addiction meds work differently than others? Like why do some help with cravings while others just block the high completely?

Yeah there's actually two main types - some activate certain brain receptors while others just sit there and prevent anything from activating them. It's like the difference between pressing a button and covering it so nobody can press it

Exactly what you guys are talking about is the agonist versus antagonist thing. Agonists activate receptors like methadone does for opioid receptors, while antagonists block them like naloxone does. The tricky part is some meds like buprenorphine do both depending on the situation. I was reading about this recently at and it really breaks down how each type works in addiction treatment. Makes way more sense when you see actual examples of how doctors use them differently for different patients and stages of recovery
