The use of genotypic assays is an effective and direct method to detect pathogen resistance. Methicillin resistance in Staphylococcus spp., vancomycin resistance in Enterococcus spp., and multi-antibiotic resistance in Mycobacterium spp. have been successfully evaluated by various genetic techniques.
