How to understand that a child has ADHD?

by laura32 » Fri Apr 25, 2025 6:11 am

Hi everyone! My son is 6 years old, and I'm starting to worry. He is very active, constantly interrupts, cannot sit still for a long time, even when he is playing. At kindergarten, teachers complain that he does not listen to instructions and distracts other children. At home, it's the same - you ask him to put away his toys, and he already runs off to play something else. Sometimes it seems to me that he is just fooling around, but sometimes - something more. Maybe it is ADHD? Share with us, who has had similar situations. How did you understand that this is not just behavior, but a problem? And what to do next?

Hi, we had almost the same situation with our daughter. At first, we also thought that she was just very active. But over time, it became clear - she cannot concentrate even on her favorite thing, often forgets what she was asked to do, and does not control her emotions. We started reading about adhd parenting. They explain well that this is a developmental disorder, not "bad behavior." It helped us understand that we need to change the approach, not scold. Now we are working with a psychologist, and it has become much easier. I advise you to read and observe the child - perhaps it is time to contact a specialist

In our class, there are several children with similar symptoms. Teachers say that it is not always ADHD, sometimes it is simply age-related. But it is still important to be attentive and not to ignore. Each child is different, and the manifestations may differ. It is good that there is a lot of information and support now. The main thing is not to panic and seek help if needed.
