Does anyone know what steps should be taken in a case
Hey folks, I could really use some advice or maybe just someone to talk to who’s been through something similar. Last week, my 10-year-old son was bitten by a neighbor’s dog while walking home from school. It wasn’t some huge attack, but he needed stitches on his hand, and now he’s afraid to even walk down that street. I haven’t spoken to the dog’s owner yet – honestly, I’m not even sure what my rights are or what to expect if I do confront them. Does anyone know what steps should be taken in a case like this?

I’m really sorry to hear that happened to your son. I actually dealt with something similar about two years ago—my niece got bit by a dog in our apartment complex. What surprised me was how many people just brush it off like it’s “normal.” But legally, dog owners are responsible, especially in California where there’s a strict liability rule. That means if a dog bites someone, the owner is typically liable even if the dog has never bitten before. You should definitely document everything—take photos of the injury (if you haven’t already), keep medical records, and ideally get a written account from your son while it’s still fresh in his mind. It might also be worth contacting a local injury lawyer just to understand your options. I found this helpful site when I was doing my research: Wagner Jones | Fresno injury lawyers — they break down your rights in dog bite cases really clearly. It's not just about compensation either, but making sure the same thing doesn’t happen to another kid.
