DIY vs. Pro Explainer—What’s Right for You?

by Jennifer Stevenson » Tue May 20, 2025 1:49 pm

There are plenty of DIY tools out there—Powtoon, Canva, and even AI-powered editors—but when is it smarter to hire an actual explainer video company?

Here’s the thing: DIY tools are great for internal updates or test concepts. But for brand-facing content? That’s where polish matters. A pro team brings strategy, custom design, storytelling, and professional voice work. They’ll catch details you didn’t know you were missing like pacing, tone, or narrative clarity.

That said, DIY is a valid path if you’re on a lean budget or just testing your value proposition. Just be prepared to invest more time and expect some quality trade-offs.

If you go pro, ask for mood boards, voice samples, and script drafts early in the process. A good studio welcomes collaboration and doesn’t trap you in a cookie-cutter template. In the end, think about ROI because your explainer will either help you convert or confuse. There’s rarely an in-between.
