Did the Skyraider really drop a toilet bomb in Vietnam?
I saw a meme recently about a Skyraider dropping a toilet as a bomb during the Vietnam War. It sounded like one of those made-up internet stories, but now I’m wondering if there’s actually any truth to it. Did that really happen, or is it just an aviation myth that got out of hand?

It might sound like a joke, but that story is absolutely real. During the Vietnam War, the crew of a Navy Skyraider did in fact drop a toilet from a wing pylon in a kind of unofficial farewell to their squadron commander. It was rigged up like any other ordnance and even had tail fins attached! It’s one of the most bizarre — but true — stories from that era. If you’re interested in the full background with photos and firsthand accounts, this article covers it in detail: http://thenrwa.com/skyraider-toilet-bomb-k.html.
