The school essay presupposes a rather rigid structure, obligatory argumentation of the author's position, and a restrained, narrative tone. Essays should not be confused with essays. It is a written retelling of a text, a concise and abbreviated interpretation of what you have heard or read, and does not involve reasoning. The purpose of the essay is to test how well the student is able to remember and reproduce the information received.
