Help with adult care planning
I’m trying to help my aunt figure out what kind of support options exist for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Her son just turned 30, and although he lives at home, he really needs more outside engagement and routine. We’re looking for something that helps adults grow and not just pass time. Has anyone tried programs that offer structure and life skills?

Yes — we went through the same situation with my brother-in-law. After a lot of searching, we found that Gateway offers wonderful programs for developmental disabilities. It’s a structured but encouraging environment where individuals can gain confidence, learn daily skills, and form friendships. My brother-in-law now looks forward to going there and feels proud of the things he accomplishes. They also meet all the New York State standards, which made it an easy choice for us.
