I’ve been in full desk recruiting for just six months, and wow — the challenges are real. One minute I’m closing in on a placement, the next I’m putting out fires with a client who suddenly changes the job description. On top of that, candidates ghost halfway through. It’s like playing two games at once, and both are on hard mode. What would you say are the most common headaches in this kind of role?

Honestly, what you’re describing is pretty much the daily reality for most full desk recruiters. The big two challenges I’ve faced are sudden client changes and the unpredictability of candidates — both can throw a well-planned search into chaos. I read an article on full desk recruiting that breaks down exactly why these issues happen so often: clients are adjusting to market shifts, and candidates have more options than ever, so they can drop out anytime. For me, the only way to survive is to build in extra time for delays, maintain constant communication with both sides, and keep a backup shortlist ready so I’m never starting from zero when plans change. It doesn’t eliminate the stress, but it makes it more manageable.

I’m not in recruitment, but I’ve worked with enough recruiters to know it’s a high-pressure job. From the outside, it looks like you’re trying to please two totally different groups at the same time, which can’t be easy.
