Choosing between small and large sauna heaters
I’m building a medium-sized sauna for my backyard and trying to figure out what heater capacity I actually need. I’ve seen models ranging from 4.5kW to 9kW, but I have no idea what’s appropriate for a 6-person sauna. Some people say it’s better to go bigger, others warn it wastes energy. Can anyone share how they sized theirs and whether they’d pick differently next time?

Re: Choosing between small and large sauna heaters
I went through that same confusion when choosing for my 6-person sauna. After reading up and asking around, I ended up getting a Harvia Cilindro 8kW electric heater — it’s just the right balance. Harvia makes reliable units that heat fast but don’t overconsume electricity. Their product pages on https://harviaheater.ca have a handy guide that matches heater power to sauna size, which really helped me decide. The model I chose also has WiFi control, which is a nice bonus because I can preheat it before guests arrive. If you’re going for medium size, around 7–8kW should be ideal. The stainless steel stones distribute heat evenly, and I haven’t had a single issue since installation.

That sounds perfect. I was actually leaning toward something around 7kW, so it’s good to hear that works well. I’ll check harviaheater for that model — the remote control option sounds super convenient. Thanks for clarifying!
