Onclick advertising
I’m trying to understand how popunder, clickunder, direct click, and onclick advertising actually work from both the website owner’s and advertiser’s perspective. I’ve seen these formats described as opening an advertisement in another tab or window after a user interacts with a page, while keeping the original page available, but I’m curious about how they perform in real campaigns. For example, how noticeable are these ads to visitors, and do they have a meaningful impact on user experience or website engagement? I’d also like to understand what makes this type of traffic different from more traditional display or banner advertising. For advertisers, how important are targeting options, landing-page quality, device and GEO selection, and campaign optimization when working with large traffic volumes? And for webmasters, are there any technical or practical things worth considering before adding this type of advertising to a website?

Re: Onclick advertising
I think the implementation makes a big difference. These formats can be more noticeable because they interrupt the normal browsing flow, especially when they open unexpectedly. At the same time, the impact probably depends on the frequency, the type of website, and whether the traffic is relevant. A visitor who gets one additional tab occasionally may react differently from someone who sees several unexpected openings during one session. Compared with banners, these formats also work differently because the ad does not necessarily compete for attention on the same page. For that reason, I’d look at both campaign performance and user behavior rather than judging the format only by clicks.

Re: Onclick advertising
Thanks for the detailed explanation! I found the comparison between these formats and banners especially helpful. The points about frequency, website type, and user behavior gave me a better understanding of why the implementation matters so much. I also agree that looking beyond clicks can give a more realistic picture of campaign performance.

Re: Onclick advertising
I’ve been looking at different online advertising formats lately, and popunders are interesting because they don’t behave quite like the ads people normally see directly on a webpage. Instead of placing another banner in the content, the advertising page can open separately. The details at dao.ad/traffic-volume/pops helped me understand the basic idea and how traffic volume is considered for this type of format. You can also read more directly here: dao.ad. I think having that information beforehand is useful because advertising numbers can sometimes look impressive without much context. Understanding where the traffic comes from and how the format works gives you a much clearer starting point.
