Checking Sitemap Integrity

by Jiromio » Tue Dec 17, 2024 1:24 pm

I run a local services website, and I recently noticed that half of my pages aren’t showing up on Google. My sitemap XML file looks fine when I open it, but something seems off. I already submitted it to Search Console, but the indexing rate is still really low. Has anyone used tools to analyze the accuracy of their sitemap? I need to figure out what’s going wrong here and get all my URLs properly recognized by Google. Any recommendations?

You’re on the right track checking your sitemap, but the problem might not be visible on the surface. I had the same issue, and I used an xml sitemap extractor to audit every URL in my sitemap. This tool helped me export all the sitemap data, which I could then compare against live URLs on my website. I found several orphaned pages that weren’t linked anywhere internally, making it harder for Google to discover them. It also helped me identify duplicate entries and pages with redirects, which slowed down the crawling process. Once I cleaned up the sitemap and resubmitted it, the indexing improved dramatically. Another tip: make sure your sitemap doesn’t include any 404 pages or canonicalized URLs pointing elsewhere, as that confuses the crawler. If you’re still struggling, consider looking into tools or services that specialize in sitemap optimization and indexing, as they can save a ton of manual effort. Tools like this will help you ensure every page gets its fair chance at being crawled. This simple audit process resolved my indexing delays within a couple of weeks.
