Instant Payment Gateway Integration: How Long Does It Really

by nadiafish » Thu Aug 28, 2025 9:49 am

We’ve been trying to expand our payment options, and honestly, I thought connecting Visa and Skrill would take forever with all the paperwork and API headaches. To my surprise, the process didn’t seem as complicated as I expected, but we still ran into delays waiting for approvals. I’m curious, for those who’ve actually done this, how long did it take you from start to finish before customers could really use the new methods?

For us it was a mixed bag. Visa took a bit longer because of the compliance checks, but the technical setup itself wasn’t bad. Skrill, on the other hand, was up and running in just a few days. What saved us time was using a platform that already had most of the gateways pre-integrated — instead of writing endless code, we just adjusted configs. If you want to see how some platforms streamline it, https://nowplix.com/platform/modules/payments shows a decent example of that approach. Having built-in monitoring and error logs also made the rollout less stressful.

I once worked on a subscription service where we had to add multiple payment methods pretty quickly. The toughest part wasn’t the coding itself but dealing with the back-and-forth from providers and making sure all the paperwork lined up with compliance rules. Even after integration, the real challenge came from testing transactions under different conditions — small payments, refunds, failed charges — to see if everything held up before going live.
