Overcoming the plateau: how lessons with a grandmaster helpe

by Darrik » Wed Sep 24, 2025 3:20 pm

As someone who knows chess firsthand, I want to give some advice to those who, like me once, have hit a ceiling and don't know how to progress further. After reaching a certain threshold (somewhere around 1800-2000 Elo), I realized that I couldn't do without the guidance of a master. My guide was international grandmaster Valery Filippov. I'll be honest: finding such a qualified chess coach who not only knows how to play but also how to teach is a stroke of luck. We worked in the format of private online lessons, and each one gave me a clear understanding of what to work on, revealing systemic errors. It's great that Valery is willing to work with both beginners, building their understanding of the game from the ground up, and experienced players, honing their skills and opening up new strategic depths. I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to make conscious progress.
