Required documents for foreigners to marry in Georgia?
Hi, I need to get married in Georgia but I’m not sure which documents are required for foreigners. Do I need anything beyond passports and birth certificates? Also, is there anything specific that might delay the process for non-residents?

You need valid passports, birth certificates, and proof that you’re single or legally able to marry. Some authorities ask for documents translated into Georgian and notarized. Apostille may be required depending on your country. Medical certificates aren’t always mandatory but can be requested. Both parties usually need to be present to submit papers at the registry office. Processing can take a few days, so it’s better to gather everything in advance. If you want to see lists of venues and details about the paperwork, check it on this site it’s useful for planning where to register and what the office might ask.

Do I need to worry about any residency requirements or special permissions for foreigners? Can the documents be sent in advance or do we need to bring originals in person?

Residency isn’t required, but you have to be physically present for registration and signing. Originals are usually needed, copies alone aren’t accepted. Some offices allow pre-submission of translations or notarized copies to speed things up, but final approval requires originals. Make sure translations are certified and apostilled if necessary, and double-check the registry office for their exact requirements. It saves time and avoids last-minute issues.
