ABIM Updates Internal Medicine MOC blueprint
Keeping to its promise to review the Internal Medicine Maintenance of Certification exam, ABIM has announced a new examination score report and updated MOC examination blueprint. As the press release explains, starting in Spring 2015, examinees will begin receiving more detailed score reports with “visual presentation of results, more detailed feedback about missed questions and links to supplemental information.”
ABIM also updated the Internal Medicine MOC exam blueprint. There were some shifts in categories though Cardiology remains the largest aspect of the exam.
In addition to the minor changes between categories, the blueprint now contains additional detail not found in the previous blueprints. Previously the ABIM had provided detailed conditions that could be seen on the exam for each of the major subjects (e.g., Cardiology / Mitral Stenosis). The new blueprint takes this a step further and indicates the level of importance (high, medium, low) regarding each of the following aspects the conditions that could be seen on the exam:
- Diagnosis
- Testing
- Treatment / Care Decisions
- Risk Assesment / Prognosis / Epidemiology
- Pathophysiology / Basic Science
For those of you using the Knowmedge IM Qbank to study, you’ve already got insights into the detailed conditions that are found on the exam. This is a level of detail not found in any other internal medicine question bank. Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll be reviewing the blueprint in detail to ensure that Knowmedge remains the absolute best internal medicine learning platform to help you prep for the ABIM exam.
