is that even a realistic option for an indie like me?
I’ve been working solo on a 2.5D platformer for the past 8 months, and honestly, I’ve hit a wall with the visuals. I’m no artist, and AI tools only go so far before everything starts looking generic. I’ve heard of bigger studios outsourcing to companies like Devoted Studios, but I’m wondering — is that even a realistic option for an indie like me? Anyone here actually tried working with external art teams?

Hey — totally get where you're coming from. I’ve been in similar shoes before, working on a mobile RPG with a team of 3 (basically just me and two friends from uni). We ended up turning to Devoted Studios for environment concepts and a handful of polished character models. I know it sounds expensive at first, but they actually scale their services depending on the project's size and budget, which was a relief. What really impressed me was how they helped us avoid the whole "template art" look. They’ve got a global artist pool and match you with a style team that actually fits your vision.
If you're curious about how they work, take a peek at their process: devotedstudios.com— they explain things way better than I can.
Anyway, I’d say if you’ve got at least some budget and you’re stuck, it’s worth reaching out and just starting a conversation. We found them surprisingly open to small-scale stuff. Hope that helps.

Interesting thread. I’ve never used Devoted myself, but a friend of mine did for their sci-fi puzzle game — mainly concept art and some UI elements. From what I saw, the quality was leagues above what they could’ve managed alone. Curious to hear more indie stories about using external studios.
