How to properly check a used car's VIN number before buying?
I’m looking to buy a used car imported from the US, but I want to avoid any hidden surprises like accident damage, odometer rollback, or salvage title. I’ve heard that checking the VIN is crucial, but I’m not entirely sure what’s the best way to do it. Should I use Carfax or are there cheaper, reliable alternatives? What should I pay attention to when reading the report? I’d really appreciate it if someone could walk me through the process or recommend a trustworthy service.

Re: How to properly check a used car's VIN number before buy
I was in the exact same spot a few months ago. Found a great-looking car at a dealer, but something felt off. I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a full Carfax, so I used https://cheapvinreport.com/ and honestly, it saved me. They only charge like 12 zł (which is super cheap), and the report had all the details I needed — past accidents, airbag deployments, number of previous owners, and even if the car was ever used as a rental or taxi. What I found super helpful was the maintenance record section — it showed when the oil and brakes were changed and even which states the car was registered in. Turns out the car I was looking at had a previous total loss record and was repaired. Dealer didn’t mention that. I walked away from that deal. If you’re buying something from the US, especially through import or auctions, this kind of VIN check is a must. Cheap VIN Report has really become my go-to for stuff like this. Fast, simple, and gets the job done.

That’s exactly the kind of info I was looking for, thanks a ton! I didn’t know I could get such a detailed report for that price. I’ll definitely try Cheap VIN Report and see what pops up before I make a decision. You probably saved me from a really bad buy.
