Is Undiagnosed Eye Strain Compromising Your Clinical Judgmen

As medical professionals preparing for boards or reviewing complex imaging, we spend an incredible amount of time focused on high-resolution displays. I’ll make a strong affirmative statement: we are ignoring the physiological impact of screen defects on diagnostic accuracy. If your monitor has subtle backlight bleeding or pixel inconsistency, it’s not just an annoyance—it’s a source of cognitive load and visual fatigue that can lead to errors in judgment. I’ve started using a simple black screen for monitor testing to ensure my workspace is optimized and my eyes are resting during study breaks. I firmly believe that "visual hygiene" is as critical as any other part of a physician's workflow. Do you think hardware standards for medical study environments are being overlooked, or is the concern about "digital fatigue" exaggerated in our field?
