Preventing blackmail: tips for safe online behavior.
The other day, a stranger wrote to me in one of my messengers and started threatening me that he would publish “personal photos” that I don't even have. At first I was scared, but then I realized that it was some fake account trying to get money. I blocked it right away, but I'm still worried. What if someone actually tries something like that? What online habits help you not to become a victim of blackmail? Maybe someone can share their experience?

Oh, I understand how frustrating that is. I had a similar situation where someone sent a fake email as if they had hacked my account and demanded money. I figured out that this was a standard scheme and found a useful article - https://cyberpanel.net/blog/what-you-could-do-anytime-if-someone-is-blackmailing-you-online- that explained how to react. The main thing is not to panic, don't pay anything and change passwords immediately. Now I always enable two-factor authentication on all important accounts. This helps prevent hacking. By the way, it is also useful to regularly check whether your data has leaked online via special sites.

To be honest, blackmail online is something everyday, although I haven't encountered it myself, fortunately. I think the less we share personal information online, the safer it is. Even harmless things like an address or phone number can play against us. By the way, I've heard that using different passwords for each account is also a good habit.
